Meet Dr. Pete
Dr. Pete Gratale is joining us today. Hailing from Teaneck, New Jersey, Dr. Pete has been practicing chiropractic for 38 years, primarily focusing on the SOT technique taught by Major Bertrand DeJarnette. Dr. Pete is a well-rounded practitioner, dedicated to health and fitness. He emphasizes that the essence of chiropractic is about becoming a living example of health and fitness.
The Role of Chiropractors in Sports
Dr. Pete shared how the chiropractic profession must strive to be the embodiment of health. He emphasized the council’s role in organizing notable events, such as the Arnold Schwarzenegger symposium on natural fitness and sports health science. These events have hosted some of the greatest guests, and for at least 27 years, they’ve upheld the legacy of sports chiropractic.
Legacy and Inspiration
During his tenure, Dr. Pete has encountered numerous inspirational figures like Jerry Matea, Bill Perl, Reg Park, Lee Haney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Franco Colombo. He expressed a deep sense of duty to inspire the younger generation, emphasizing the council’s role in continuing this tradition.
Wizards of Chiropractic
Dr. Pete introduced the intriguing concept of chiropractors as “wizards.” He shared an anecdote about Todd McDougle, a chiropractor for the world’s strongest man, explaining that it takes a special kind of healer to be trusted by professional athletes. Dr. Pete believes in the magic of chiropractic and, reflecting on his 38 years of practice, he stressed that one never truly retires from this profession.
Apprenticeship and Fellowship
Dr. Pete proposed that as an organization, they should focus on teaching the legacy and techniques of chiropractic to new apprentices. By fostering fellowship and ensuring that the younger generation understands the tradition of chiropractic adjusting, the council can ensure the continuation of this rich heritage. One important step in this direction is to name protocols after significant contributors, like the “Jackson protocol” and the “Major protocol.”
Addressing Athletes’ Unique Needs
Brant added that it’s essential to educate the next generation of chiropractors on interacting with athletes. Athletes’ bodies are their entire livelihood, and chiropractors play a crucial role in helping them maintain peak performance. Dr. Pete emphasized the diversity of the council, which includes specialists in various sports disciplines, all contributing their unique expertise.
A Celebration of Excellence
Dr. Pete proudly acknowledged the achievements of female chiropractors within the council. These accomplished women have excelled in various fields, from neurology to bodybuilding and sports chiropractic. Their success is a testament to the council’s dedication to excellence and inclusivity.
