Enhancing Athletes’ Edge: Chiropractic Techniques without a Twist
Welcome to our blog, where we dive into the exciting world of chiropractic care for athletes. Today, we’re talking about a special episode from the ICA Sports and Fitness Science Council podcast, featuring Dr. Brant Hulsebus and Dr. Todd McDougle.
Meeting the Experts
Dr. Brant Hulsebus recently had the chance to learn from Dr. Todd McDougle, who is an expert in sports chiropractic. They both shared their experiences and techniques that help athletes perform better. Dr. Hulsebus describes working with some very large athletes, like a 6-foot-7, 400-pound man, and how they use short, quick adjustments to improve their flexibility and strength.
The Chiropractic Approach
Dr. McDougle explains that traditional chiropractic techniques often involve twisting and stretching, but for strength athletes, like weightlifters, it’s crucial to maintain muscle tone. Instead of the typical twists, Dr. McDougle uses what’s called a “short lever, high velocity burst application.” This technique helps keep athletes strong without stretching their muscles too much.
Real-Life Success Stories
Both doctors shared amazing stories about using these chiropractic methods on different people, not just athletes. For example, Dr. Hulsebus helped a 78-year-old nurse regain stability in her lower back, allowing her to care for her husband at home. He also helped a 46-year-old dad get back into playing soccer after years of pain.
Join the Journey
Dr. McDougle and Dr. Hulsebus encourage other chiropractors to learn these techniques because they can help everyone from athletes to grandparents. They believe in sharing knowledge and want more people to join their sports council to learn and improve.
