Introduction
Welcome to the latest blog post from the ICA Sports and Fitness Science Council! In today’s entry, we’re excited to share insights from a recent podcast episode featuring Coach Mike Lopez, a celebrated figure in the sports and fitness community. Hosted by Dr. Brant Hulsebus, this podcast dives deep into Coach Lopez’s inspiring mission to bring chiropractic care to communities in Mexico City.

Dr. Brant Hulsebus kicks off the podcast with his usual warm welcome, humorously mentioning the mouthful that is the ICA Sports and Fitness Science Council website. Then he introduces the special guest of the day, Coach Mike Lopez.

Meet Coach Mike Lopez
Hailing from Los Angeles and now residing in Mexico City for over a decade, Mike Lopez has a rich history rooted in sports and coaching. A Stanford graduate, Coach Mike has worked in various capacities, from being the Director of Operations for the Hall of Fame Academy for Kids to interning with the Steelers. According to Coach Mike, “I’ve always tried to serve humanity,” which reflects his life-long commitment to making a positive impact.

The Mission
Coach Mike shares how his journey into chiropractic began a little before COVID-19 struck. Introduced to Dr. Oberstein, President of Life West, by a mutual friend, Coach Mike was intrigued by chiropractic missions and health clinics. Despite initially knowing little about chiropractic care, his curiosity and dedication led him to collaborate with Life West on missions all over the world. These missions aim to help humanity through chiropractic care, and have been executed with unwavering dedication, even during the pandemic.

The Experience
Working with Life West, Coach Mike has been instrumental in organizing missions where chiropractic interns provide care to thousands of people. These missions have significantly impacted the local communities and provided invaluable hands-on experience for the chiropractic students. As Coach Mike mentions, “It’s a great experience for them. It’s been, it’s not just great. It’s been a blessing.”

Cultural Exchange and Community Impact
The missions don’t just offer chiropractic care; they also foster cultural exchange. Coach Mike elaborates on the curiosity and enthusiasm of the local communities, who often have limited exposure to chiropractic care. The events become so significant that they attract government officials, newspapers, and local news channels.

Coaching the Coaches
Switching between roles, Coach Mike serves both the community and the interns, ensuring everyone is prepared and motivated. As he states, “I do a little huddle, Dr. Brant, in the crowd. Instead of pumping them up like a football coach, I share the importance of giving love and care to the people.”

The Bigger Picture
One of the podcast’s highlights is the shared sentiment about the greater purpose of these missions. Dr. Brant and Coach Mike discuss how these initiatives go beyond treating physical ailments – they restore hope. The emotional stories of lives changed by chiropractic care deeply resonate with both the interns and the recipients.

The Final Word
As the podcast draws to a close, Coach Mike emphasizes the human responsibility to help others. He encourages everyone to find ways to serve humanity, no matter how small the gesture may seem. His heartfelt words encapsulate the spirit of the missions, “I believe really in my heart that we as a human race, we have a responsibility to help others.”

Dr. Brant wraps up the podcast by thanking Coach Mike for his incredible work and providing information on how listeners can get involved. If you’re interested in supporting these missions or joining the effort, Coach Mike can be found on Facebook (Michael Lopez) and Twitter (@CoachMikeLopez).
